The department of Environmental Sciences and Engineeringof Anhui University of Technology was founded in 1987. It has two undergraduate majors,Environmental Engineering andEnvironmental Equipment Engineering, coupled with one M.A. program of Environmental Science and Engineering. Currently, there is an Engineering Research Center of "Water Purification by Biofilm Method and Utilization” of the Ministry of Education.
At present, there has been 4 Professors, 6 Associate Professors and 11 lecturers.With the development of the departmentthreeresearch teamshave been built up, including wastewater biological enhanced treatment and reuse technical team, environmental fluid mechanics team and industrial flue gas pollution control research team. Meanwhile, thedepartmenthas also undertaken numbers of national, provincial, ministerial, and local research projects, with the funding of over 10 million. The teachers have published more than 100 high-level academic papers, achieved over 10 patents, won 1 second prize for national technological inventions, 1 first prize for scientific and technological progress in Anhui Province, and written 4 academic monographs and teaching materials.
Currently, there are420undergraduate students and69master studentsin thedepartment.A fairly mature academic schedule has been developed for educating undergraduate and graduate students. After registered, each freshman is assigned an academic mentor to help them explore their potentials through their college life. The master education program is intended to cultivate students’ creativity and improving their ability to analyze and solve complicated environmental problems.
In recent years, thedepartmenthas carried out favorable academic exchanges with Rutgers University, University of Iowa, the University of Science and Technology of China, Tongji University, Harbin Institute of Technology and other well-known universities at home and abroad. The employment of graduates is mainly engaged in urban sewage and metallurgical industry wastewater pollution control, metallurgical industry flue gas treatment, with the rate of over 96%. Many graduates have been the backbone of technology and management in their working scope. A large number of outstanding alumni have emerged, winning a good social reputation.
